If you do the Nintendo update it will remove your homebrew.
If this is what you want then do the following to see if you have preloader make sure that your wii remotes are synced or you will have to use a gamecube controller 1.

I'm trying to update my wii and go on the wii shop channel but it will not update or let me view the wii shop channel.

Formatting it, changing the channel on my router, rebooting, nothing would work and I called Nintendo directly.
When I got my 3rd Wii U (the deluxe model this time), I took it to another person's house where I updated it just fine.
In that case (if I read the below FAQ properly) you can delete the update data from download management, redownload, and try again. maybe you could update at your friends' place again? I saw one other person posting about it here on the forums, and they just happened to have my very same ISP... No idea who they are, but they said they were able to get it to update by using their i Phone's wi-fi.
Also the update isn't being downloaded by the system on its own, so it isn't in the file manager.
I can view the internet on my wii perfectly and look at the forecast, news, and everyone votes channels fine.
